Sapphire Blend Necklaces - in Three Lengths

from $320.00

If Nirvana Had a Color Way…

  • This might be it.

  • Edition of 3. Each is one of a kind.

Made with:

  • Czech glass beads in several shades of sapphire, turquoise and sea green.

  • Dark oval wood prayer beads inlaid with white or silver stripes. Made in the Middle East.

  • Glass beads from Ghana (the small periwinkle blue ovals with white lines on them).

  • Antique European glass beads, including zig-zag-shaped beads (sometimes called snake vertebrae beads) in the Medium and Long necklace lengths, probably made in Bohemia, the westernmost area of the Czech Republic, in the early 20th century. Also, long, luminous periwinkle blue oval beads, also probably Czech. Lastly, round lapis blue beads with golden accents, made in what used to be called “West Germany” - I know this because small paper labels came with this beads when I bought them 30+ years ago in New York. The labels read “Made in Western Germany,” a region formed in May of 1949, which continued until Germany was reunified in 1990. It’s amazing how beads embody complex historical tales!

  • Tiny Japanese glass seed beads, stitched into small peyote-stitch tubes or larger vintage beaded beads. There’s a story behind these beads too. If I understand things correctly, they began being made by the Miyuki company in 1930s Hiroshima, Japan - and went on to dominate the bead-loving world in the late 1990s.

  • Oxidized sterling silver beads, made in China (I think).

Strung on:

  • A double length of nylon-coated steel cable, the strongest thin bead stringing cable on the market.

Finished with:

  • Oxidized sterling silver lobster clasps in small or large sizes appropriate to the length and weight of each necklace.

Weight:

  • All are lightweight.

Dimensions & Prices:

  • The width for all 3 of these necklaces is a maximum of about 1/3” wide. The lengths are as follows:
