Bonnie Levine, owner of Hedone Gallery, wearing Valerie's "Sea Green Ovals" Necklace, June, 2015. Bonnie says: "I've been a big fan of Valerie's work for 23 years.  The first piece of studio jewelry my husband ever gave me was this beautiful brooch in 1993, and I've been a major fan with her bead work ever since.  The way she combines simple forms with color, texture, unique beads, and unparalleled attention to detail to create beautiful pieces of jewelry is unparalleled - she is a master!  On our recent 20th anniversary, my husband presented me with this major necklace of sea green Czech glass beads - what an amazing piece.  It's very special to have a 23-year connection to Valerie!"

TeAnte Turner visiting my booth at the American Craft Council show, Baltimore, Feb., 2014.

TeAnte says: "I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Valerie Hector some years ago at an American Craft Council show in Baltimore. I had only just recently discovered the art of beading so to see the work of someone of her caliber up close was exciting. Apparently the stars had aligned that day because while I was admiring her work, several customers were finishing up purchases and moved off, leaving me alone with Ms. Hector. We struck up a conversation and she must have seen a true interest in me because the next thing I knew she was writing on one of her show cards a list of other artists I needed to look up and books I needed to read on the subject of beading. I left her that day in a delightful daze.

Every year since then, I’ve always made a point to stop by her booth to see her new work and, when possible, say hello and show her anything I’d recently created. Flash forward to today and, after several starts and stops and life changes, I’m back into beadweaving heavily and am working to create a collection of my own for display. She has been a true inspiration to me and I thank her for taking a moment that day to ignite a passion in me that was just waiting patiently for the right spark. Oh, and I still have that card."

Barbara P., wearing one of my early One of a Kind necklaces, March, 2015.   Barbara says:  "When I first discovered your beautiful hand-crafted beaded designs about 20 years ago, I knew that I found a very special designer! I now own many of your exquisite pieces and they give me immense pleasure whenever I wear them. Without question, your work has become my most prized jewelry collection and I receive compliments wherever I go. Your beaded design “elements” or “modules” permit me to be creative and outfit. As beautiful as your designs are and how happy I feel whenever I wear them, knowing you over 20 years has also been a gift and a distinct pleasure. Although my husband Mark and I only see you at shows, you are a part of us and you will always be remembered as one of the nicest and most talented people we have ever known.  Thank you Valerie!"

The Ladies Say:  "We are four friends who have been coming to Valerie for many years. What we love about her is how distinctive her work is.  So many people we encounter when wearing her pieces recognize her work and appreciate her artistry. Other artists have told us how Valerie has shared her knowledge and helped them start their careers.  Most of all we love the beauty and versatility of her work.  Valerie's pieces make us happy when we wear them.  We wear her pieces with everything. We delight in responding to the complements we receive on our jewelry by naming her as the artist who made the piece. Thank you Valerie for creating such lovely jewelry."
