Beaded Tumbleweeds are some of the most difficult and time-consuming structures I make. Each is one of a kind and asymmetrical - imperfectly spherical, you might say, occasionally heading towards oval.

The process begins with a certain length of sterling silver rectangle wire, which I shape by hand into a sort of spherical structure. After soldering the structure in a number of places to make it firm, I bead first the outsides and then the insides, securing the beads one by one. On the whole, it's a meditative process (with a few moments of frustration thrown in).
